BAC on the Farm, North American Research – A special report by Dr. Michael Kiriac, PhD, ND

If you were a dairy farmer and I told you that by feeding half a pound of Bio-Algae Concentrates to each of your cows, you would collect 1200 lbs more milk per year from each cow, would you listen?

By the way that’s 564 quarts of milk per cow! The math is simple. Each cow is fed 3 capsules of BAC daily for an annual total weight of 208 grams, or half a pound.

A project to evaluate Bio-Algae Concentrates (BAC) has been underway for over 36 months at Alain Forget Dairy Farm in Laval, Quebec. As a result of increased productivity from the use of BAC, this farm was awarded a provincial certificate of high performance by Valacta, a dairy monitoring agency.

Alain Forget, having seen the benefits of using BAC for his own health challenges, accepted to trial BAC on his dairy farm. The aim of this study was to re-prove in North America what had been proven in Russia, that adding BAC to the diets of animals would lead to extraordinary gains in productivity.
BAC was evaluated in regards to standard productivity markers for dairy cows from a herd of 50 Holstein cows. BAC was added into the commercial feed that is fed daily to the cows with the purpose of increasing overall cellular nutrition to achieve better health and increased productivity. At the start of evaluation, the herd was already performing above provincial averages, and this only adds to the extraordinary nature of the results presented next; but for the purpose of this evaluation certain parameters were targeted for amelioration:

  • milk volume
  • texture of the udder
  • somatic cell count (SCC)
  • overall productivity
  • emptying of the udder
  • gestation
  • reduction of nervousness of the cow during milking which may lead to greater emptying of the utter

Prior to this article and recent report by Michael Kiriac, four reports had been provided by Alain Forget at intervals of 6 months, 12 months, 24 months and 36 months. This summary report includes the productivity markers collected at various intervals over the last 36 months which we are showing next in table and graphical forms with comments.

For 36 months we have been using bio-algae concentrates with a group of cows within our Holstein dairy herd. The results show a 3,000 kg augmentation of milk production over 36 months, a general augmentation of the Breed Class Average (BCA) of 20% for milk, 9.3% in fat and 8.6% in proteins.

These results have earned us the General Herd Performance award from Valacta, the Quebec milk control agency. We have also observed the following results when compared to provincial averages; a gestation interval of 384 days as compared to 426 for the provincial average; a milk production of 12,186 kg per year compared to 8,622 kg; with a 434 kg production of fat versus a provincial average of 329 kg; and a proteins production of 399 kg as opposed to 278 kg for provincial. Additionally, the longevity of the herd has increased to 42.4 days as compared to 39.4 days for provincial.

During the period, the evaluated herd passed from 22 cows to 40 lactating cows. The augmentation of the average age of the herd has an influence on the somatic cell count (SCC). We observed our SCC distorted by nearly 34% because of two or three cows. With the deviation, the count stands at 235,000, slightly over the provincial average. During the months of March to May, the SCC stood below the provincial average of 110,000, with 105,000 in March, 102,000 in April, and 65,000 in May.

Because of the independently and statistically measured results obtained with our herd, we believe that BAC must affect positively the brain organ hypothalamus responsible for the regulation of all metabolisms of health. We are exited to continue the evaluation with focus on a healthier udder, on increasing the average age and the longevity of the herd, and thus on increasing the profits of the farm.

In the dairy cow industry there are several criteria used to measure and compare results within the different breeds of cows. The cows tested in this evaluation are Holstein and the following table shows the Breed Class Average (BCA) data collected at the different intervals during the evaluation.

The addition of BAC to the cows’ diets is proven and noteworthy for the 36 months period. A trend has been firmly established showing increases in milk production and in milk daily average when compared to the start of the evaluation. At this point, it is reasonable to believe that an overall increase in the health of the cows leads to greater productivity. One of the productivity results is shown next in graphical format.

The overall productivity results have earned the Alain Forget Farm a Herd Performance award from Valacta, a Quebec independent milk control agency. The award was based on the following results when compared to provincial averages:

Of the several results, longevity is shown next in graphical format. The longevity is a factor derived from the duration of gestation. In essence because the cows are bearing a new calf 42.4 days sooner, it is projected that each cow will bear 3 additional calves in its productive lifetime.

In medical and nutritional research, it is customary to use animals for showing that the substance being tested will cause no harm. And that’s pretty much what most people remember about using animals for research. But there is much more to it. With animals, one can use large enclosed population, and easily ensure that each participant eats the same diet and lives the same lifestyle. In addition, there are no placebo effects to contend with.

Based on the results obtained, it is apparent that BAC supports an increase in cellular nutrition, which delivers better milk quality, and delivers an increase in productivity with decreased nervousness of the cows during lactation (less stimulation of the teat and greater emptying of the utter). With the observed increase of the cows’ overall health, it is apparent that BAC brings about a positive impact on the central nervous system. We can safely say that the endocrine balance “homeostasis” is achieved via cellular nutrition. And so we conclude with the only logical explanation, that when BAC is added to the diet, there is better health of the cow’s hypothalamus and pituitary axis, the regulator of all metabolisms.

In summary, when BAC is added to the diet, the formula goes:

BAC = health of herd = milk = protein = fat = calves

Let me remind you that during much more rigorous research that took place in Russia, adding BAC into the animal feeds, had yielded extraordinary health improvements in over 20 species: cancers, osteoporosis, cardiovascular and other afflictions were prevented; productivity gains were measured with; increased fecundity, higher survival of newborns; more milk, more eggs, more proteins, more “good” fat, and more calcium in the milk and eggs; and many other benefits specific to each species were realized. All this was achieved with less feed, no antibiotics and no growth hormones.

These findings are quite astonishing to any farmer and to you too I hope. Based on this recent evaluation and the research performed previously by Michael Kiriac, it is easy for me to jump to the conclusion that if BAC is good for 20 species, it’s good for me.

I have a thyroid problem and I am told to avoid algae due to its high iodine content. Is there too much iodine in BAC?

There is great lack of knowledge about algae, which leads to rumors, misconceptions and fear. It is true that some macro-algae like kelp, also called sea vegetable, contain high levels of iodine. And because of this, people throw everything about algae in the same “algae” bucket. This is quite unfortunate as some algae and particularly the blend of algae as it occurs in BAC can be beneficial to resolve naturally many health problems.

And let’s not forget that iodine is a required nutrient for human. Beside sea vegetables there are many other source of iodine that we consume daily, for example; fish, yogurt, cow’s milk, eggs, strawberries and mozzarella cheese amongst other.

As far as iodine versus algae goes, the reality is that of more than 65,000 known algae, most do not contain high levels of iodine.

The iodine content of BAC amounts to ZERO toxicity potential, and there are no known contra indication with medications or other foods or supplements. On the contrary, expect positive health support from adding BAC in your diet.
