DEAR FRIENDS

ninja

Welcome to this month’s BioNews.  We must learn to free ourselves from the control that others exert over us. As we learn we become FREE, we become powerful.  This pursuit of self defense in wellness, I call “The Martial Art of Wellness.” And as we practice we become Wellness Ninjas.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

I wasn’t feeling well in the first half. I felt down, man. I had three slices of pizza before the game and the food took me down.”
– Leroy Loggins, basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets after 1986 semi-final

THIS ISSUE’S TESTIMONIAL:  (Changes in body, mind and soul!)

In this month’s article, I will use my previous testimonial that many of you may have read as a lead into this month’s article hoping that my personal results running marathons will make the long scientific narrative on nutrients and sports performance more tangible, more real.

Maryse and Roland at the start line of the 2012 Montreal marathon

Since 1988, I had been enduring a reoccurring L5 subluxation causing me lower back pain that incapacitated me from my favorite activities – namely playing tennis, running and other demanding sports.  I couldn’t even help my spouse with heavy lifting. I was 50 years old, 40 lbs over weight, had decreasing energy, strength and drive for life. That is when I started taking BIOSUPERFOOD. Within days I began to have no back pain and I was able to start a fitness regimen of daily rapid walking, and soon found myself able to jog without pain. Realizing the benefits of BIOSUPERFOOD, I decided to do away of my long-time daily regimen of ~23 different supplements amounting to over 60 different tablets or capsules. I lost the 40 lbs in the first year, and I regained tremendous energy and life-drive.

Since my days in college I had always wanted to run the Montreal marathon, my home town.   Not there just yet, on December 4, 2004, in Tucson, AZ, I ran to the finish line for my first marathon. Ambitious me, within the next 12 months I completed three more marathons, and have continued running ever since completing many other races, marathons and half-marathons.

As runners will know, there are hundreds of days and thousands of miles of training runs putting heavy demand on the body preparing for these races. I was able to transform from being inactive to an active marathon-runner in this short period of time without injuring myself and without significant pain. I am 100% certain that I could not have run one marathon, never mind four – and certainly not without injury – had it not been for BIOSUPERFOOD. By the way, in 2012, with my daughter Maryse, I finally achieve my dream of running the Montreal marathon.  I hope to continue enjoying running for a long time.

THE MARTIAL ART OF WELLNESS (BAC 4 Performance)

The Russian Research

ebookWhat worked with cows, minks, big cats, chickens and pigs will also help fitness trainers and endurance athletes. As documented in my book Awakening The Genius Within, and at www.themagicisbac.com, Bio-Algae Concentrates (BAC) was proven in very large production trials to increase disease resistance of sheep, cattle, chickens, hogs and more species. Amongst the many benefits proven were; increased protein assimilation, protein synthesis and assimilation of more nutrients in our diet. In the context of sports and athletics, we now know that it helps build and maintain muscle mass, improve performance and recovery from strenuous exercise in endurance athletes. I could write many articles about the extraordinary nutrients in BAC and their benefits, but for this fitness centric article I will focus on two of the well known athletic performance nutrients, namely Leucine and Astaxanthin for which there is much research, and I will also describe the many benefits resulting from their assimilation when consuming BAC.

Leucine, branched-chain amino acids for major trauma victimsLeucine has been a major element of scientific quests over the past three decades. One such research, an attempt to help patients suffering from major trauma (including victims of severe burns, those involved in serious car accidents, and patients recovering from extensive surgery) and in another research, an effort to make farm animals leaner and larger. While those two goals may seem somewhat unrelated, they both revolve around an activity which is absolutely essential for life: protein synthesis.

slide6Leucine increases tissue regeneration – Basically, an individual suffering from major burns or physical trauma needs to rapidly manufacture new body tissues while making sure that any cells not affected by the injury remain healthy and viable. To quickly create the new tissues, the body must use basic chemical building blocks – amino acids – to assemble the mint-condition proteins which will be the foundation for the new muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, and so on. Similarly, farmers raising livestock for market are hoping to accelerate the same processes in their animals. Like doctors working with traumatized patients, the farmers want to create as much new muscle as possible in their animals while preserving the muscle tissue that is already in place.

Leucine boost protein synthesis and inhibit protein breakdown – Leucine comes into the picture because it’s one of the three so-called branched-chain amino acids (the other two are isoleucine and valine). These branched-chain fellows are important because some studies have shown that they have a special capacity to boost protein synthesis and inhibit protein breakdown. For example, when increased doses of the branched chains are given to hospital patients recovering from surgery, decreases in urinary nitrogen are sometimes noted, a sign that protein is being preserved more effectively (when proteins break down, they dump nitrogen into the blood). None of the other amino acids has as strong a protein-preserving effect as the branched chains.

Astaxanthin a powerful antioxidant in BAC for increase athletic performance – Astaxanthin as occurring in BAC shows great promise for athletes. Astaxanthin is an antioxidant associated with eye health, vision, depth perception as well as significant increases in muscle strength and fat loss. The effect of mixed antioxidants on the capacity for physical performance has been investigated in a number of studies. One such clinical study in humans to demonstrate positive clinical effects of natural astaxanthin was carried out in 1997 in Sweden. In a group comprising of 40 young healthy men, supplementation with daily astaxanthin was given to half of the study group for a period of six months. The results from the study showed a significant increase in muscle endurance amongst the men supplemented with astaxanthin compared with the men not supplemented.

Muscular strength and reduced pain – In research conducted at the Iowa State University, Leucine supplementation has been shown to heighten muscle mass and strength in athletes who carry out regular resistance training.  In another six-month randomized double-blind study of 40 healthy young men was conducted at the Karolinska Institute in Gustavsberg, Sweden. Half the students were given a daily dose of 4 mg. of a proprietary astaxanthin formula, while the other half received a placebo. After measuring the results of standardized exercise tests, the researchers discovered that the students taking astaxanthin had nearly three times more muscular strength and endurance than the placebo group. It’s a fact that oxidation (which can be compared to ‘rusting’ in our body’s) can lead to inflammation of the muscles and joints. Astaxanthin has been shown to reduce the pain of that kind of inflammation. In another study conducted on athletes, researcher found that strength and endurance nearly tripled after using astaxanthin with less pain and inflammation. Athletic performance was also shown to be enhanced due to improvements in depth perception.

dreamstime_xl_30899594BAC for lean muscle mass building, increased stamina and strength – BAC has been observed to heighten muscle mass and strength in athletes who carry out regular resistance training, according to athletes of all kinds from all over the world that have been using it. BAC taken after workouts helps rebuild, repair, and grow lean muscle mass. The more intensive the training, the more effective BAC promotes fat burn, toning, lean mass building, increased stamina and strength. BAC contains no steroids, but will help the body produce natural steroids.

Weight control and increased oxygenation – In Japan, researchers demonstrated that mice given astaxanthin in several different doses along with a high fat diet had significantly lower body weight and body fat levels. The results were compared to mice fed a high fat diet of the same calorie level. There was a reduction in liver weight, liver triglycerides, blood cholesterol and triglycerides. When added to a high-fat, high-calorie diet, astaxanthin prevented mice from becoming overweight. Astaxanthin did this by increasing the usage of fat as an energy source. There was also a decrease in the respiratory exchange ratio (RER), which indicates that fat was used for fuel, instead of carbohydrates being used.

Better depth perception and vision – In a sports vision study led by Sawaki et al., they demonstrated that depth perception and critical flicker fusion had improved by 46% and 5% respectively on a daily dose of 6 mg. This prompted a number of other clinical studies to evaluate the optimum dose and identify the mechanism of action.

BAC and reduced pain with hockey players – During the 2000 Winter Games held in St. Petersburg Russia, BAC was compared with two other supplements – Ginseng and a Chinese herb. It was reported by the Russian team players as the best for alleviating pain, particularly knee pains as well as to render a faster and better recuperation of energy and blood oxidation after games. Igor Kravcuk and Pavel Bure, then National Hockey League team players, sponsored this experiment.

Reduced oxidative damage – Strenuous sports and training sessions for endurance and strength can often cause muscle injuries which are exacerbated by simultaneous production of free radicals. Supplementation with BAC which contain astaxanthin for which there are clinically proven indications that it protects muscle tissue against free radical oxidative damage during exercise and also inhibits the secondary inflammatory response. This leads to increased muscle endurance.

Consuming BAC “Fires” ordinary food – Most of us assimilate only a portion of the nutrients from the food we eat and supplements we take. As proven in large animal trials, consuming BAC promotes greater absorption of nutrients and vitamins into the blood for maximum availability to the body’s cells. Cell membranes when malnourished often become incapable of full assimilation of vital nutrients and enzymes. With BAC cells oxygenation and nutrition increases due to improved transfer across cell membranes.

EFA’s – Essential Fatty Acids – The “fats to muscles” – BAC is rich in Omega 3, Omega 6, Omega 9, Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA) and many more. BAC’s high gamma linoleic acid content – like early mother’s milk – has pro-immune anti-inflammatory properties as well as positive effects on the vasodilatation of blood vessels.

Vitamins and minerals – BAC supplies an array of vitamins such the critical B vitamins, including B12, the vitamins A, E, D, K and C. It contains all known minerals and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium. Regular use is known to reduce the level of saturated fatty acids in the liver and increase the level of unsaturated fatty acids, enabling distribution and delivery of nutrients where they are most needed for peak metabolism.
