DEAR FRIENDS
Welcome to this month’s BioNews. We must learn to free ourselves from the control that others exert over us. As we learn we become FREE, we become powerful. This pursuit of self defense in wellness, I call “The Martial Art of Wellness.” And as we practice we become Wellness Ninjas.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“ An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language. ”
THIS ISSUE’S TESTIMONIAL: Dog made complete recovery from IMHA …now we both take BAC too!
” Well, our BioSuperfood story began from the incredible success of BioPreparation in saving our dog from autoimmune hemolytic anemia. His system was no longer creating red blood cells and was being kept alive by blood transfusions. However, the strong doses of prednisone and cyclosporine were not helping him overcome the disease. They were making him progressively sicker and weaker to the point that we were told by the vet there was nothing more they could do for him. Thankfully we came across your website and had ordered the F3 strength and gave him 7-8 a day and he slowly but surely got stronger and has made a complete recovery. In fact, he has so much energy now, we laugh at all the trouble he gets in. His recovery made me and my wife realize that the nutrition in the bio-algae would be very helpful to us. We began taking the BioSuperfood in Jan 2014 and we both made it through the winter with no colds or flus and we both have greater energy. ”

THE MARTIAL ART OF WELLNESS: BAC (Bio-Algae Concentrates) for Animals, Part II
(Article contributed by Maureen Murphy, NC)

Maiya has consumed BAC daily for 12 years. She has never been to the vet for any sickness. (knock on wood).
To state it simply: food is fuel—energy for the body. If you’ve ever put the wrong fuel in your car, you may have experienced inefficient combustion, loss of power and even engine damage. Translate this to the food you eat and you have an idea of what poor quality food might do to your body. This holds true with animals as well.
BAC (bio-algae concentrates—the “generic” name) is the most energy-efficient fuel that a body can consume. BAC is not medicine. We like to call it a “complement” to a healthy diet and lifestyle…and we believe that BAC is the finest complement that can be paid to any body!
So… what exactly can BAC do for your PETS? For one thing, BAC offers roughly 15,000 nutrients, in a totally balanced, synergistic and bioavailable whole food form. This includes EVERY vitamin, mineral, trace element & essential amino acid, as well as Omega 3, Omega 6, GLA and other critical fatty acids, chlorophyll, thousands of enzymes, mixed carotenoids and much more! For animals of any age or health, BAC is a far better choice than any separate, often synthetic supplement. And BAC supplies the fuel to help your pet’s body operate at optimal levels so it can get the most out of his/her daily diet and stay healthy!
Surprisingly though, its dazzling array of nutrients is NOT the main reason that BAC is “a breed apart”. Rather, it is its mechanism of action—how BAC works—that makes it so unique. BAC “Awakens the Genius Within” to cause a cellular healing revolution within the body!
What is this “Genius” within? The hypothalamus-pituitary axis–or HPA. This is the part of the brain that controls virtually all metabolic functions including digestion, elimination, endocrine response and inflammatory response to name just a few. The unique molecular structure of the carotenoids in BAC, coupled with the synergy of nutrients, enables BAC to cross the blood-brain barrier and “jumpstart” the HPA—sort of reminding it what it is supposed to be doing.
Imagine the world’s finest musicians, about to perform the most incredibly beautiful piece of music. The setting is magnificent, the music well- written, the performers are all present and well-rehearsed in their parts. They are just waiting for the conductor to appear on the dais to begin the concert…but s/he (the HPA) is asleep in the dressing room! BAC arrives and knocks on the door. The conductor wakes up, springs into action and leads the orchestra in a most magnificent performance…
WHICH FORMULA TO USE?
The bio-algae concentrate (BAC) formulas–including BIOSUPERFOOD and BIOPREPARATION–are FOOD, not medicine. But they are also a very efficient and powerful, nutrient-dense source of fuel for the body.
We recommend BIOPREPARATION (BP) Formula F2+ or F3+ for animals. BP is identical to the BIOSUPERFOOD formulas except that it is freeze-dried at a colder temperature. This produces a finer powder that can “get the job done” a bit quicker in the shorter digestive tract of a cat or dog.
BP F2+ is a great place to start for just about any animal, but aging pets or those in critical health circumstances may well be advised to work with F3+ straight away for the quickest and most efficient results. BP F3+ offers the highest ratio of carotenoids and other antioxidants and is thus roughly five times more efficient at aiding the body in self-repair.
HOW TO GIVE BAC TO PETS
Most pets find the algae highly palatable! Simply twist open the capsules and the powder inside can be mixed in water or wet foods** or you can give it in capsule form. (If you have a finicky pet that is rejecting BAC, see Tips for Finicky Pets below.) The best way to support the animal is to give small amounts a few times throughout the day. While this may not always be feasible, do the best you can towards this end for optimum results—and at least split the daily intake into two feedings. Always be sure that the animal has plenty of pure clean water available too! This will help flush out and carry toxins away from the body as well as supply good hydration, critical for good health.
Always remember that the best way to give BAC to your pet is to introduce it slowly.
Let the animal’s body be your guide and watch for signs of digestive upset or other indications that s/he has reached a “tipping point.” Consultations with your veterinarian and/or other BAC provider will help you to determine what is appropriate for your animal and his/her circumstances.
CATS & SMALL DOGS (up to 25#):
Start cats and small dogs with just a pinch to ¼ -capsule twice daily for the first week or so. After that, gradually increase the frequency of this portion to 2 to 4 times daily and, depending on the overall health of the animal and how s/he is responding, possibly up to 6 times daily. If the animal is otherwise young and healthy, ¼ – 1/3-capsule given 2-3 times daily would be the average for maintenance of optimal results.
MEDIUM to LARGE DOGS:
Start medium to large dogs out with just ½ capsule twice daily for the first week or so. After that, gradually increase this portion to ½ or a full capsule 2-4 times daily (depending on the overall health of the dog and how s/he is responding, possibly up to 6 times daily.) If the animal is otherwise young and healthy, 1 capsule given 2-3 times daily would be the average for maintenance of optimal results.
In general, younger, healthy animals with no acute or chronic health concerns or toxicity exposure should do well with a healthy diet & lifestyle and the addition of F2+ to their daily regimen.
FOR SICK, DEBILITATED and/or SENIOR PETS:
For many senior animals and/or those with various manifestations of dis-ease, F3+ may be the better choice. There are cases, however, when it may be best to START on F2+ and gradually transition to F3+ once the body has become acclimated to BAC. Animals with high blood pressure, thyroid, cardiac, and some other fragile health issues may fall into this category.
In cases of debilitated health and/or advanced dis-ease, F3+ might be the better choice, and it may be advisable to accelerate the intake to the animal’s tolerance. Frequency trumps quantity, so smaller intakes more frequently throughout the day is best for optimal results.
Intake recommendations and duration of program may vary, depending on circumstances and the unique biochemistry of each individual. Degenerative conditions that took several months or years to manifest into symptoms will require a minimum of 6 months on the initial program suggested. Following that period, we recommend a lifetime commitment to a healthy diet and lifestyle supported by a reduced maintenance regimen of BAC consumption. We suggest that the body is the “doctor” and will do everything possible to get and stay healthy when provided with the proper “fuel” – and there is no better fuel than BAC!
TIPS FOR GIVING BAC TO FINICKY ANIMALS
Remember that the best way to give BAC to your pet is in small increments, at least 2-3 times/daily, rather than all at once, AND it is better to get some BAC into your pet than none at all.
Do not automatically assume that your finicky pet will not readily take to BAC. Read Melanie’s story:
16 year old cat: She likes BAC so much she demands it! I just have a comment. I started giving BAC to my 16 year old cat who is in great health (except for a slight heart murmur which was just detected 4 weeks ago). I was concerned that she would not like the taste and would stop eating her wet food if I sprinkled it on…..well, I started off slowly and now she will not eat unless I put a substantial amount mixed into her wet food. She is pretty finicky and I am shocked that she actually likes it so much she demands it! – Melanie K. – December 2009
Many first time users of BAC have reported similar stories to Melanie’s.
But…if your picky pet is not like Melanie’s cat, here are a few helpful options to try.
OPTION ONE:
With dry hands, gently twist the capsule open over the pet’s food bowl and mix just a small amount into the animal’s wet* food. Add a bit of fluid (low-sodium organic chicken broth or tuna water or warm filtered water.) This warm fluid will bring out the food’s aroma and often, particularly in the case of older pets that may also be experiencing dental issues or kidney problems, they appreciate the more fluid consistency. This also increases the pet’s intake of water—a good thing, especially in older pets! Mix it up well so the food has just a tiny bit of a green tinge to it—not streaks or clumps. Save the rest of the capsule for complementing another meal.
Once you have gotten your pet to accept these tiny amounts in their food, continue on with this for 3-10 days. Then increase, by small increments, the amount added to his/her meals, gradually increasing over the next several days until you reach the optimal intake level for your pet (see Pet Guidelines above for suggested amounts. Always respect your pet’s individual biochemistry.)
OPTION TWO:
Mix the portions into water or a highly-palatable liquid such as chicken broth, tuna water or, in the case of dogs, maybe apple juice. We always recommend using low sugar/low-sodium options and organic choices when possible. Again, start with tiny amounts and gradually work up from there, as accepted. See if your pet will drink the healthy, nutrient-dense green fluids! If not…use a feeding syringe to get the liquid solution into your picky pet. Sometimes, when a pet is debilitated and not taking any food or water on its own, this is the best or only option. If using this method, be careful not to overdo it with each administration. Watch for aspiration in your pet and only use this method if you can do it safely and comfortably for you and your pet.
OPTION THREE:
Try hiding the whole capsule or partial capsule in a favorite soft food such as peanut butter, cream cheese, liver sausage or other “treat”.
OPTION FOUR:
When all else fails—get comfortable with “pilling” your picky pet! If you like, you can purchase smaller, empty #3 or #4 size capsules at a health food store and split the contents of the BAC capsule into these smaller, easier to swallow sizes.
*OTHER RECOMMENDATIONS:
- We recommend a mostly “wet” food diet—raw, properly home-prepared, and/or quality canned foods—for all dogs and cats. These options are closer to whole food than a highly-processed kibble-only diet. If you must feed dry kibble to your dog or cat, offer some fresh options at least a few times a week: sardines (in water), unseasoned raw or lightly-cooked eggs, meat and/or broth, unflavored yogurt (small amounts), etc.
- Many holistic veterinarians are recommending adding additional fluids to cats’ canned or raw food to increase hydration in this species that is susceptible to a variety of urinary tract infections, blockages, and kidney failure. Cats, unlike dogs, are not known for drinking a lot of water, and if your cat IS, it may be time for a trip to your veterinarian to find out why.
- Don’t let your pets overeat! Obesity has become a major problem in house pets and, like in humans, can have dire effects on your pets’ overall health and longevity.
- Don’t use plastic bowls for your pets’ food or water. Stainless steel, glass, ceramic, or lead-free pottery are all safer choices.
- Don’t let your pets eat too fast! Eating too much too fast can result in everything from obesity to vomiting to bloat and more and can, in some cases, be a sign of underlying health issues.
- Always make certain that your pets have access to fresh, clean water. Proper hydration is key to their health, especially in hot climates or summer months.
- Keep your pets moving – don’t let them get overweight! If your pets are couch potatoes, slowly introduce more walks and/or interactive play to keep them more active and moving for at least short periods every day, or as often as feasible.
- Allow your pets ample access to fresh air and sunshine. It’s only natural! (That goes for your housecats too! Consider building your indoor cats a CATIO for safe outdoor access.)
- Watch for signs of new behavior (a decline in personal hygiene, change in mobility, new exhibits of aggression or of hiding, increased vocalizations, etc.) that may indicate health problems.
- Take good care of yourself! Animals can and will pick up on YOUR stress and have been known to mimic the health issues of their people. Remember, who will take as good of care of your animals if you cannot?
